Manuscript Evaluation Checklists
Don't you wish friends and writing partners would give you a helpful critique of your draft? They may want to help, but don't know how.
We've done hundreds of draft evaluations. To guide our analysis while reading, we have developed two 10-point checklists. They list elements such as plot and character for fiction, organization and tone for nonfiction.
After reading, we fill them out in detail, so that the author gets a lot of good feedback, both about their strengths and the areas that need improvement. The "goals" section is where the editor makes a list of specific suggestions for revisions.
Feel free to use our checklist and our process with your writing group, friends, and family. You may get some great feedback!
There is one checklist for fiction, and a second form for nonfiction.
