Literary Fiction
This novel was a long time in the making. The author worked at the draft for over twenty years! We helped to revise it from a memoir to a more dramatic fictional story. The cover design reflects a turning point scene in the book. I located the cover images from free creative commons sources and blended them to recreate that scene. We placed the book on amazon.com through CreateSpace. I recently revisited this book to create an ebook version for the Kindle. -
Memoir, Non-Linear
This author came to us with an editing challenge: how to combine her life story with the journals of her father. Their experiences and times were different, yet they influenced each other. The result is a non-liner narrative, a mix of prose and journal entries. The cover image provided by the author represents their complex, troubled relationship. -
Children's Book
This was a project with a team approach. We worked with the author and illustrator to lay out, edit, and publish this charming children's book. We also helped the author to set up a publishing company so that he could publish more of his own work and other author's books. -
Family History With Census Records and Maps
This author carefully laid out his book in Microsoft Publisher, only to learn that printers wouldn't accept it. We reconstructed the book's interior, faithful to his original plan but improving the artwork. We designed the cover with many layered elements, front and back, to represent the people, places, and themes in this family history. -
How-To
This how-to book is filled with entertaining stories and cool cars. The author shares harrowing tales of wheeling and dealing Miatas, along with practical advice. Because the color images of the cars were essential, we located an affordable color printer for this book in addition to placing it on amazon.com. This made it possible for the author to sell full-color books at a reasonable cover price. -
Creative Writing / Photography
This book is a creative combination of travel photography and short stories. The author provided beautiful digital art, and printed both hardcover and inexpensive softcover versions for distribution. -
Family History
This family history was co-authored by four siblings. They each contributed family stories and photos. Because they did not have a lot of information about distant ancestors, they focused the book on their parent's generation and their own childhood years. -
Tribute / Veteran History
This book was designed as a loving remembrance of a soldier who died at Normandy. His family gathered his letters and artifacts to be scanned for the bulk of the book. They then supplemented the text with chapter introductions about the battles he fought in during World War Two. I created the art deco frame for his picture and chose the fonts to reflect the styles of that time. -
Journals, Novelized
This novel is drawn from the fascinating journals of Ronald Bothwell, who lived as a hobo in the 1920s. His son Bruce edited them and added fictional elements, scenes and dialogue, to strengthen the narrative. The iconic cover photo was available from the Smithsonian. -
Memoir / Story Collection
This memoir is a collection of insightful, humorous stories spanning the author's early life. It contains precious photos of the author's family in the 1930s. Each story was chosen to describe important formative experiences and to explain the causes of later life choices. -
Ethical Will
Unlike a conventional family history, this book's chapters are thematic, discussing topics such as health, education, and other family values. This book was produced very quickly from digital recordings over the phone, and has a very direct "voice" that speaks to the intended reader. -
General Fiction - Epistolary Novel
This prolific author has edited and novelized the letters he and his brother have exchanged, documenting their lives. A publisher refused to use the brothers' picture on the cover - a deal breaker that led the author to self-publish with our help. The icons on the front and back cover are unique to the story of each decade in this multivolume set, while the cover's dominant color is derived from that decade's fashion. -
Epistolary Novel Volume 2
Like the 70's volume above, this book was designed for an author whose publisher refused to use the brothers' picture on the cover - a deal breaker that led the author to self-publish with our help. The cover's dominant color is derived from that decade's fashions, and the icons on the front and back covers are unique to the story of that decade. See how they switched to an electric typewriter in the '80s?
