    American mystery novelist Richard North Patterson was born this day in 1947. He is a lawyer and the law figures in many of his books. Patterson won an Edgar Award for the Best First Novel for The Lasko Tangent. He has followed it with 11 best sellers including No Safe Place, Eyes of a Child and Dark Lady.
