She is known for taking on controversial subjects like racism, menstruation, divorce, bullying, masturbation and teen sex in books like Are You There God? This is Margaret, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great, and Blubber. Because of the nature of her themes, Blume has often been a target of would be censors. Her book, Forever, was the most frequently challenged book of 2005. Blume has won a Margaret A Edwards from the American Library Association and has been recognized as a Living Legend by the Library of Congress.
