    Today’s Literary Birthday
    American novelist Alexandra Ripley was born on this day in 1934. Her books Who’s the Lady in the President’s Bed, Charleston, Leaving Charleston, Time Returns and New Orleans Legacy were all best sellers. But Ripley is best known for a book that was panned by almost every critic, Scarlett, a sequel to Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind. Despite the negative reviews, Scarlett too was a best seller.
