    Today’s Literary Birthday
    German mythologist and librarian Jakob Grimm was born on this day in 1785. Along with his brother Wilhelm he collected German folk tales which they published in 1812 as Children’s and Household Tales. The book soon became known as Grimm’s Fairy Tales. It contained such familiar stories as Snow White, Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel. W.H. Auden called the Grimm’s Fairy Tales one of the foundational works of Western culture.
