Montaigne on Memoir

Nan Barnes

Today’s Memoir/Family History Quote
“Who does not see that I have taken a road along which I shall go, without stopping and without effort, as long as there is ink and paper in the world? I cannot keep a record of my life by my actions; fortune places them too low. I keep it by my thoughts.”
Michel de Montaigne
Today’s Literary Birthday
British mathematician, logician, photographer and Anglican deacon Charles Lutwidge Dotson, known by his pen-name Lewis Carroll was born on this day in 1832. Carroll was a friend of Pre-Raphelite poets John Ruskin and Dante Gabriel Rosetti. He wrote poems like The Hunting of the Snark and Jabberwocky which are part of the genre of literary nonsense. He is best known for the stories he made up for the children Henry Liddell. The stories are collected in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
